Use the AI assistant
The newsence AI assistant can answer a standalone question or read the resources, documents, and Workspace context you select. The most important factor is not prompt length; it is whether the correct context appears above the input field.
Two ways to use AI
Section titled “Two ways to use AI”Standalone AI Chat
Section titled “Standalone AI Chat”Open AI Chat to begin with a blank question or a preset task:
- Daily news brief
- Summarize key points
- Compare sources
- Create a research document
Standalone chat works well for exploration across topics or before you have chosen a Workspace.
The AI panel beside a page
Section titled “The AI panel beside a page”When you open the AI panel beside a feed, Workspace, resource reader, or document, newsence can carry selected content into the conversation.
- Select several articles in a feed to compare them together.
- Add the resource you are reading inside a Workspace.
- Open a document and it becomes context automatically.
After you send a message, newsence saves the context used for that turn with the message, then clears the input context. This prevents the next question from accidentally reusing old material.
Add or remove context manually
Section titled “Add or remove context manually”Use the + button at the lower-left of the input to add an existing document. Removing an item from the context row affects only the next question; it does not delete the original item from its Workspace or Collection.
Before sending, check that:
- you selected the correct document version;
- every source you want to compare is present;
- unrelated old articles are not included;
- newly added resources have finished processing.
Actions AI can take
Section titled “Actions AI can take”Depending on your plan, remaining AI allowance, and current context, AI can:
- search public content in newsence;
- supplement results with public external web research;
- read selected articles, documents, and Collections;
- create documents in the active Workspace;
- edit an existing document;
- add cited resources to a Workspace;
- generate images on Pro;
- create audio overviews.
Tools display their progress and result while they run. When document creation succeeds, you can open the document directly from the tool result.
Citations and verification
Section titled “Citations and verification”Citations in a response link to original URLs. A citation means AI used the source; it does not mean newsence guarantees that the source is correct.
For important research:
- open citations and verify the original text;
- ask AI to separate facts, inferences, and uncertainty;
- compare at least two independent sources;
- manually check numbers, dates, and names before publishing.
Models and AI usage
Section titled “Models and AI usage”Use the selector at the lower-right of the input to change models. The Free plan includes three free-tier models. Locked models direct you to the upgrade options.
Billable model and media-provider calls increase usage according to their actual cost. The interface shows a percentage rather than model prices or token counts. When the allowance is used up, new operations stop and show an upgrade prompt.
See Plans and AI usage for details.
